Cover Letter Writing

Some experts say that the cover letter is extinct.  Not needed.  A waste of time.  An absolute frivolous activity. While cover letters won’t guarantee you an interview or solely land you the job offer, this supplemental document can help recruiters, headhunters and employers if you are unqualified for the role, making a career transition to a different industry, applying for an entry-level job and/or if you have significant employment gaps.  Also, some companies will request a cover letter for their vacant role as a means to differentiate your knowledge, skills, abilities, experience and story from a short list of final candidates. In all, a cover letter exists to supplement your resume/CV, especially if requested by an organization.

The future of the job application process is digital.  Employers, recruiters and hiring managers are already on the Internet, and using mobile devices to peruse LinkedIn on a regular basis.  So, let me also take your value to the digital marketplace to increase your chances of landing the role that you deserve.

ASCII Plain Text Resume CL.jpg

ASCII Plain Text Resume

Has a company ever instructed you to submit an ASCII resume?  If so, the American Standard Code for Information Interchange (ASCII) means that job applicants must submit a text-only or unformatted version of your resume.  In short, your resume should not contain any formatting styles including (but not limited to) underlines, bullets, italics, tabs, lines, special fonts and graphics. Why are this resume style important to recruiters, headhunters and employers?  First, ASCII text resumes are a great match for applying to job sites.  Some job portals and job posting sites prefer these resumes over formatted resumes.  Additionally, plain-text resumes are easy to parse keywords from the Applicant Tracking System because ASCII resumes prevent compatibility issues.  Secondly, unformatted resumes make it easy for applicants to copy and paste into email messages and online forms.  So, let me provide you a plain text-version of your resume that we can add to your entire professional portfolio.
